Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarships
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho/MEXT) of the Government of Japan offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities.
Only Canadian citizens living in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, The Northwest Territories, and Nunavut can apply for these programs through the Consulate-General of Japan at Calgary, Canada. Necessary forms can be downloaded from web page links below. If you have difficulty downloading, please contact us with your mailing address. For those that are nationals of a country other than Canada which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government you must apply via the appropriate Japanese embassy or consulate in your country of citizenship.
NOTE: Please be aware that interviews and tests for applicants within the jurisdiction of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, The Northwest Territories, and Nunavut will take place at the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary.

The period necessary to complete the accepting university's study course, which should be approximately one year from October (the starting month for the study course). Extension of the term is not allowed. |

| Term of Scholarship: |
Scholarship awards will be tenable for five years from April, 2012 to March 2017 including one year prep course in Japanese language and other courses. For scholarship grantees majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy, the term is seven years until March 2019. |
