The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme aims to promote internationalization at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese and foreign youth. Once a year, the Japanese government invites overseas university graduates from 39 countries to assist in international exchange and foreign language education through this exchange programme. In Japan, JET participants are placed in the public school system as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) or in local government offices as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs).
