Teruyasu Fujiwara Blacksmith at Omatsuri

2015/8/1

Interested in how knives are made? Come see the Japanese blacksmithing demonstrations at Calgary Japanese Festival Omatsuri. Coming from a well-established line of blacksmiths, Teruyasu Fujiwara continues the unbroken tradition of blacksmithing in his family which has spanned 4 generations.

Through the process of forge welding, steel and stainless steel are forged together to provide rust protection while also retaining sharpness. This technique was utilized in the process of traditional sword making, and Teruyasu Fujiwara applies the same methodology to his knife-making. Mr. Fujiwara will be conducting demonstrations of the knife-making process at Calgary Japanese Festival Omatsuri at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm on August 15th, 2015 at Bowness Community Centre.
