2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes Relief Donations

Due to the recent Kumamoto Earthquakes, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary would like to express its profound gratitude for all the people and organizations sharing their deep sympathy toward the Japanese people, as well as the offers of assistance from various sectors that it has been receiving. The Government of Japan, together with the people of the affected regions and the entire nation of Japan, is doing its utmost to provide rapid emergency response and help with the recovery of the regions affected by the disaster.


The Consulate General of Japan in Calgary is now accepting donations. We also would like to announce that the prefectures of both Kumamoto and Oita are accepting donations through their own bank account as described in 2.
 
1. Information Regarding the Account of the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary for Relief Money
 
The Consulate General of Japan in Calgary has opened an exclusive bank account in order to receive relief donations for those affected by the Kumamoto Earthquakes. The relief donations must be made by cash or cheque in Canadian funds. These funds will then be sent to the account of the Government of Japan at a later date (Contributions of goods or online money transfer cannot be accepted).
 

Please note that the Consulate-General of Japan is not able to issue receipts for tax credit purposes. However, if you wish, we can issue a “Donation receipt”, which indicates the date and the amount of the donation received, and states that the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary has received such amount to provide assistance to support recovery and relief efforts in the region of Kumamoto following the 2016 earthquakes.
 
Option 1: Donations by cash or cheque brought in person to the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary
Cheques must be made payable to Consulate General of Japan in Calgary
Opening Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on our opening days (excluding 12:30 to 1:30pm)

 *Please fill out a donation form and submit it at the reception window.
 
Option 2: Cheques sent by post to the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary
 
Please send your cheque along with a donation form or a note indicating (1) your name, (2) address, (3) a description of your institution/organization: governmental organization, international organization, private sector or personal, (4) telephone number, (5) your choice of destination of donation (the Government of Japan or the Japanese Red Cross Society) and (6) if you wish to obtain a Donation receipt or not. If you wish to receive a Donation receipt, please clearly indicate so and provide your email address. You will receive it by email at a later date.

Note: After relief money is received by the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary and sent to the account of the Government of Japan or to the Japanese Red Cross Society, the money will be delivered to the affected people through local governments.

2. Direct Donations to the Prefectural Governments 
 
(1)The Government of Kumamoto Prefecture has also opened an account in order to accept donation from overseas. For further details, please refer to the following document: Call for 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake Donations.

(2)The Government of Oita opened a bank account for donation on April 22nd. Please be informed that this is not an account that accepts donations from overseas specifically. Please refer to their HP (in Japanese)
