Welcome Reception for Consul-General Tanabe and Mrs. Tanabe

On June 23rd & 24th a Welcome Reception was held for Consul-General Tanabe and his wife at the official residence. Among the approximate 300 guests in attendance were The Honourable Daniel Hays, Former Speaker of the Senate; Mayors from municipalities in Alberta with sister city relationships in Japan; Members of the Legislative Assembly; provincial officials; academic scholars; economic sector associates; and members of various Japanese-Canadian organizations. Consul-General Tanabe made an opening address to the guests, while His Worship Mayor Spearman of Lethbridge, and Alberta government representative Ms. Anam Kazim, MLA for Calgary-Glenmore, also offered up remarks. Guests had the opportunity to chat with each other, partake in Japanese sake-tasting and enjoy Japanese cuisine, including the chef’s cooking of tempura right before their eyes.
