Consul General Tanabe gives Keynote Address at Sir Winston Churchill High School Model United Nations
On Friday, October 20th Consul General Tanabe gave a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the annual 2017 Sir Winston Churchill High School Model UN (SWCHSMUN). Taking place over October 20th and 21st at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, SWCHSMUN saw approximately 600 students from 29 schools across Canada and the United States, joined together to engage in a wide range of debates and negotiation of challenging situations simulating the UN.
Some of the committees included UNESCAP, WHO, UNSC, UN Women, Naoto Kan’s Cabinet during the Great East Japan Earthquake, and more. In his address Consul General Tanabe praised the young representatives for their passionate perspectives on the power of diplomacy and their eagerness to resolve problems peacefully through dialogue.
