Consul General Tanabe attends Cultural Exchange Event at St. Michael School with Jr. High students from the Town of Tarui, Gifu-Prefecture

On January 19th, Consul-General Tanabe visited St. Michael School in Calgary and attended the welcoming ceremony for a group of Jr. high students from the town of Tarui in Gifu Prefecture. Approximately 180 students from St. Michael School as well as representatives from the Calgary Catholic School board also attended the ceremony with the 15 grade 8 students from the Town of Tarui. Each year a group of students from Tarui come to Calgary as part of a cultural exchange project and this year marks the 28th visit.

The Consul-General expressed his wish for the Japanese students who came to Canada to further strengthen the bonds of cultural exchange and fellowship even after they return to Japan as this year marks the 90th Anniversary Japan-Canada Diplomatic Relations.

During the ceremony, a video introducing the Town of Tarui was shown and a choir performance by the students from Tarui was given. Also, the St. Michael School students danced to a traditional Japanese folk song, Soran-bushi.
