Conferment Ceremony for the Former President of the Calgary Japanese Community Association – Mr. Rocky Rokuji Oishi
On June 22nd, the conferment ceremony of the Order of The Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays was awarded to the Former President of the Calgary Japanese Community Association (CJCA) – Mr. Rocky Rokuji Oishi at the official residence of the Consul-General. The Order of The Rising Sun was awarded to Mr. Oishi after Consul-General Kobayashi introduced the great efforts Mr. Oishi has made to contribute to the spread of Japanese culture in Alberta as well as increase recognition of CJCA through the planning and implementation of events such as The Calgary Japanese Festival “Omatsuri” and the CJCA Stampede Breakfast. Additionally, he spearheaded fund-raising efforts in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Following that, Mr. Oishi expressed his appreciation of being the recipient of the award, while Ms. Kazim, member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the guests; and Mrs. Nagata, member of the executive committee of CJCA’s Omatsuri Festival, representing Mr. Oishi’s friends, congratulated his conferment. At the ceremony, more than 60 people came together, including Mr. Oishi’s relatives, friends, and members related to the CJCA, Japanese culture, the Provincial government, the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and the media, were all there to congratulate Mr. Oishi’s conferment.
