On January 24th, 2020 Consul-General Kobayashi hosted the AJBA (Alberta Japan Business Association) Networking reception at his Official Residence.

This year we were honoured to have the Minister of Energy Hon. Sonya Savage speak at the event. Mr. Yukio Kishigami, AJBA President and Dr. Aya Fujiwara, Director of Prince Takamado Japan Centre gave presentations.

In his opening remarks, the Consul-General drew attention to the challenges currently faced by the energy industry and the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government to help improve the situation in the new year.

The Honourable Sonya Savage, Alberta’s Minister of Energy in her remarks acknowledged the longstanding and mutually beneficial ties between Japan and Alberta as well as the long history of Japanese participation in Alberta’s oil and gas sector. The Minister outlined several measures the Government of Alberta has undertaken, or will undertake, in order to improve the investment climate in the province.

Approximately 55 people attended the reception from the Alberta economy including representatives from the energy sector and the government. As the CPTPP Agreement came into effect at the end of 2018, Japanese products were on display to promote exports from Japan.
