On November 25th, Consul-General Wajima made a courtesy call to the Government of Alberta in Edmonton. During this time, he met with the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; the Honourable Nathan Cooper, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta; the Honourable Matt Jones, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade; the Honourable Ric Mclver, Minister of Municipal Affairs; the Honourable Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals; the Honourable RJ Sigurdson, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation; Ms.Ronda Goulden, Deputy Minister of Forestry and Parks; and Mr. Tristan Sanregret, Assistant Deputy Minister of International Relations. During the series of meetings, Consul-General Wajima stated that in light of the recent international situation, Canada's importance in the Asia-Pacific region has increased significantly, and that the relationship between Alberta and Japan in particular is more important and promising than ever before, especially from the perspectives of energy security and food security. Alberta officials also expressed their hope of further strengthening the relations.
