Strange Transformations: The Supernatural and Early Modern Japan Conference

On November 12th, Consul General Kobayashi gave opening remarks during the “Strange Transformations: The Supernatural and Early Modern Japan”
International Science Council Conference held online by the University of Alberta, and sponsored by the Japan Foundation and other sponsors. During the conference, researchers from Canada, the United States, and Japan participated and talked about supernatural phenomena such as yokai (monsters and spirits in Japanese folklore), the historical background, the influence of Chinese culture, and the influence on contemporary Japanese animation and manga through academic presentations.
