2021 Alberta Provincial High School Japanese Speech Contest

On Saturday, May 8th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary cosponsored the Alberta Provincial High School 9th Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest in cooperation with the Alberta Japanese Business Association, the Japan Foundation, the Edmonton Japanese Community Association, and the Alberta Japanese Teachers’ Association. Consul-General Uchida gave opening remarks encouraging the students who have continued to study Japanese under the current circumstances of COVID-19. Afterwards, the approximately 20 students from throughout Alberta confidently delivered their speeches online, ranging on various topics such as “My COVID Life,” “My True Self,” and “The Charm of Traveling to Japan,” showcasing the achievements of their daily Japanese study. Finally, Head Judge Akiko Sharp from the University of Calgary delivered overall comments and final rankings.
