Internship Opportunity

The Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary will be accepting applications until June 13th, 2022 for an Internship position with the Public Relations & Cultural Affairs Section as per the conditions listed below.

Internship Candidate Requirements

  • Hold either Japanese or Canadian nationality
  • Current student at a Canadian or Japanese university, graduate school, technical school or language school
  • If you are a Japanese national – you must hold either a legitimate visa permitting residence in Canada, or permanent residency
  • The internship must be part of a post-secondary program (preferably for the purpose of earning credits)
  • Ability to communicate in business English without any difficulty
  • Be familiar with operating Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience in video/audio recording and editing is an asset

Internship Period & Hours

  • approx. 2.5 months, including June, July and August of 2022
  • Generally 3 or more days a week
  • Approximately 20-35 hours per week (From 9 AM to 5 PM – to be determined after discussion with candidate) (Lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30PM)
  • Occasional evenings/weekends for Japanese cultural events

Internship Duties

  • Assisting with taking photos, videos and editing
  • Assisting with social media
  • Assisting with cultural events (setup, takedown, etc)
  • Assisting with other office duties

Compensation

  • Neither salary nor compensation for any expenses (transportation, meals, accommodation, etc.) are provided.

Documents to be Submitted

  • Résumé (either Japanese or English) (no style preference)
  • Statement of intent (no style preference, but include possible internship hours, frequency, timeframe)
  • Copy of personal identification document (passport, driver’s license, visa [if applicable], etc)
  • Recommendation letter from the education institution’s head, supervisor, professor, or academic advisor
    *It must be clearly stated that the internship is part of a university/college program (e.g. “The applicant is enrolled in an academic, credit-bearing course based on his/her internship”)

  • Please send required documents to the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary’s Public Relations & Cultural Affairs Section via email to info@cl.mofa.go.jp specifying the subject of the email as “Internship” before June 13th, 2022. Interviews will be conducted following applicant screening.
  • Those that qualify after paper selection will be contacted by our office sometime in mid-June regarding an interview.
