Participation in the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony and Consul-General’s Message for the Building a Culture of Peace Exhibition

Deputy Consul-General Nakagaki attended the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony at Olympic Plaza in Calgary on August 6 and delivered remarks. Messages from the mayors of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Calgary were also read aloud by children, followed by performances from Okinawan-Canadian singer Kaley Kinjo, opera singer Leila Keith, and others.
In addition, the City of Calgary proclaimed July 9 to August 9 Building a Culture of Peace Month, and “The Building a Culture of Peace Exhibition” was held at the Calgary Central Public Library during the period.
The Exhibition featured photos from the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremonies in previous years, as well as messages collected by the organizers, the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony Planning Committee, for the campaign, “A Thousand Voices of Light Creating a Culture of Peace”. A written message by Consul-General Uchida was also displayed.
