2023 New Year’s Reception

  Consul-General Watabe held a reception on January 27 at his official residence for members of the Japanese and Nikkei Japanese-Canadian communities to celebrate the New Year for the first time in three years.

 The Consul-General delivered remarks discussing Japanese Prime Minister Kishida’s recent trip to Canada as well as breaking free from the COVID-induced isolation. He also expressed his desire for support from the Japanese and Nikkei Communities in continuing Japan-Canada exchange.

The guests enjoyed the evening, complete with food and drink prepared by Chef Owada who arrived at the end of December. The menu included osechi and other Japanese food using Canadian ingredients, as well as a variety of Japanese wine and sake.
