Participation in the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony and Consul-General’s Message for the “Building a Culture of Peace” Exhibition

Consul-General Watabe attended the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony at Olympic Plaza in Calgary on August 5 and delivered remarks. Messages from the mayors of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Calgary were also read aloud by children, followed by performances from Indian music performing group, Madhuban Performing Arts, indigenous singer-song writer Wendy Walker, and others.

In addition, the City of Calgary proclaimed the month of August “Building a Culture of Peace Month”, and The Building a Culture of Peace Exhibition is being held at the Calgary Central Public Library from August 8 to 25.

The Exhibition features such exhibits as, “Your Life, Our Hope: A Threat of Nuclear Weapons and How to Protect Our Future”, “What is A Culture of Peace?”, “Peace Heroes”, and “Children's Message for Peace”. A written message by Consul-General Watabe is also on display.
