What is the Japan Photo Contest?

With the goal of fostering interest in Japanese culture and to further promote understanding between Japan and Canada, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary is pleased to present its 10th Japan Photo Contest. This contest is open to all who reside in our jurisdiction of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

Submit photos for a chance to win prizes, including the Grand Prize: a Nikon Z 5 Camera and 24-50mm Lens Kit, an official certificate from the Consul-General of Japan in Calgary, and your photo featured online and in future events and promotions. Thank you to our generous sponsors Nikon Canada Inc., The Camera Store, Matsu Kaze Tea, UNIQLO Canada, Japan Airlines, Japanab, Strawberry Boots, and Amandine Bakery for providing this year's contest with wonderful prizes!

The 10th Japan Photo Contest has four categories. Each person can submit up to a maximum of four (4) photographs (up to one [1] photo per category).
Photos taken in Japan or Canada (with a Japan-related theme/subject) are welcome!

We aim to promote awareness of various aspects of Japan's culture, while continuing to foster the positive relationship between Japan & Canada.
This year the categories are as follows:
  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Autumn
  • Winter
The submitted photos may contain content related to nature, Japanese culture (food, regional traditional events, etc.), pop culture, lifestyle, Japan-Canada friendship, or anything else—as long as the seasonal theme is evident!
