Ceremony to Confer Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on Dr. Victor Norman Sawa

On February 15, Consul-General Wajima conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, on the late Victor Norman Sawa, former Honorary Consul-General in Regina, in recognition of his significant contributions to Japan-Canada relations. Dr. Sawa, who passed away on June 12, 2024, utilized his extensive network as a renowned musician in Canada to promote mutual understanding and foster Japan-Canada ties. His efforts included bridging municipal exchanges between Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan, and Maebashi City in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. During the ceremony, Consul General Wajima delivered a congratulatory address, praising Dr. Sawa for his 12 years of dedicated service as Honorary Consul General. Following the address, Dr. Leslie Sawa, representing the family, delivered an acceptance speech expressing gratitude to all those involved.
