Consul-General Wajima Attends Kainai Chieftainship Ceremony in O’Mahksipiitaa (Medicine Hat)

On September 22nd, Consul-General Wajima attended a Kainai Chieftainship Ceremony by invitation from Elder Charlie Fox, where two prominent community members from the Medicine Hat area were inducted as honourary Chieftains.
Former Speaker of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, Mr. Bob Wanner and Senior Counsel at Walsh LLP, Ms. Joanne Crook were both inducted as honourary Chieftains for their contributions to protecting the interests of the Blackfoot Nation throughout their careers.
Consul-General Wajima was invited to deliver remarks and congratulations to the two new honourary Chieftains. During his remarks, the Consul-General noted that there are many similarities between those of the indigenous people of Canada and Japan, and looked forward to new opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange.
Congratulations to both inductees on the recognition of their lifelong contributions to the Blackfoot Nation.
