Consul-General Attends 125th Anniversary Celebration of Okinawan Immigration to Canada

On August 30th, Consul-General Wajima attended the 125th Anniversary Celebration of Okinawan Immigration to Canada held in Lethbridge. At this celebration, he presented an Consul-General’s Commendation to Mr. Seishin Oyama, President of the Okinawa Canada Association, expressing deep respect and gratitude for his significant contributions over many years to the friendship and goodwill between Okinawa and Canada.
The celebration was attended by approximately 350 people, including not only residents of Lethbridge but also members of prefectural associations from various locations such as Vancouver and Calgary. Vice-Governor Ikeda of Okinawa Prefecture presented awards to elderly immigrants and distinguished contributors to immigration.
The event featured shamisen performances and Eisa dance demonstrations by the Calgary Okinawan Club and the Vancouver Okinawa Club, alongside a live performance by Mr. Albert Shiroma. The gathering concluded with the entire venue uniting in a collective Kachashi dance.
