On October 28th, Consul-General Wajima attended the Fireside Chat event hosted by the Government of Alberta. Consul General Wajima was joined by Jonathan Turner, British Consul General in Calgary. The Panel was moderated by Jennifer Jabs, Assistant Deputy Minister Trade Division (Government of Alberta).
The panel started by exploring the global trade environment. Consul-General Wajima shared on how Japan is looking to change their priorities for business and trade opportunities, particularly by diversifying their trade partners. On the next topic of advancing collaboration, Consul-General shared about the importance and opportunities surrounding natural gas exports to Japan. He also shared about how Japan could benefit from continuing to learn about Alberta’s Carbon Capture Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). In regards how Alberta companies could penetrate the Japanese market, Consul-General shared about the importance of taking time to understand Japan’s market needs, particularly the importance on quality of goods and services and long lasting relationships. He also welcomed Alberta businesses to contact the Economic Affairs division at the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary, as well as JETRO to initiate a relationship with Japan.
We are pleased to have participated in this great opportunity to diversify Alberta’s trading partners and research partners, and look forward to promoting a new generation of collaboration.
