2025/10/22
On October 22nd and 23rd, Consul-General Wajima attended the ‘Setagaya-Winnipeg 55th Anniversary  Commemorative Dinner’ hosted by JCAM and the ‘The 55th Anniversary of Winnipeg & Setagaya Sister City Reaffirmation Ceremony’ held at Winnipeg City Hall.

The relationship between Setagaya and Winnipeg began in 1960 when Japanese residents in Winnipeg and the Association of Second-Generation Canadians in Japan initiated an exchange of children's and students' paintings. As the exchange of paintings continued, sister school partnerships were established between elementary and junior high schools. In 1970, the sister city partnership between Setagaya and Winnipeg was formally established, reaching its 55th anniversary this year, 2025. To this day, active exchange programs between Setagaya and Winnipeg continue, including mutual homestays for junior high school students.

Consul-General Wajima, expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the 55th anniversary of the sister city relationship and paid deep respect to all those in both cities, including the Japanese community, who have supported this partnership.

Furthermore, at the 55th Anniversary Commemorative Dinner, a splendid video celebrating the long-standing friendship between the two cities was presented by JCAM. Please follow the link to view the video.
