Japanese Culture Night to Promote Kendo and Japanese Cuisine in Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden

On March 25, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary hosted an event at the Nikka Yuko Bunka Centre in Lethbridge to introduce Kendo and Japanese cuisine, aimed to deepen the understanding of Japanese culture.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Consul-General Wajima and Ms. Dawn Sugimoto, the president of the Lethbridge & District Japanese Garden Society. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. David Westhead, the head of Tesshin Dojo in Calgary. It provided insights into the martial art’s spiritual philosophy and history. Furthermore, the program featured an introduction to the activities of Kendo Master Naoki Eiga, accompanied by a video screening of his work.
In the latter half of the program, Japanese cuisine prepared by Chef Keisuke Oyama was served, highlighting premium Japanese ingredients such as Nagasaki Wagyu beef. The event was attended by many students from the University of Lethbridge, and guests enjoyed a lively exchange of ideas and networking while enjoying the meal.
