Bento Event in Appreciation of the Calgary Police Service
2026/5/20
On Wednesday, May 20th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary had the pleasure of hosting another special bento event in appreciation of the Calgary Police Service and their continued dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community, including several thousand Japanese nationals who live in or visit Calgary. This was the first time the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary had an opportunity to serve a Calgary Police District.
As a part of Government of Japan’s efforts to promote Japanese food culture, a presentation highlighted the uniqueness of Japan’s bento lunch culture, access to Japanese ingredients in Calgary, and recommendations to Japanese restaurants for further exploration.
Each bento was carefully crafted by Consulate-Chef Keisuke Oyama and staff, to reflect the tradition and artistry of Japanese cuisine. This time, the bento was a torisoboro san-shoku bento! Torisoboro is a classic Japanese dish made with seasoned minced chicken, scrambled egg, and vegetables. The name san-shoku means “three colors” in Japanese, referring to the colorful combination of ingredients that make this bento both delicious and visually vibrant.
We are truly grateful for the opportunity to engage with the Calgary Police community in such a meaningful way. We look forward to continuing to share Japanese culture and cuisine through future events and collaborations.
