Consul-General Wajima Visits the Edmonton Regional Hydrogen Hub

2026/6/2
On June 2nd, Consul-General Wajima visited the Edmonton Regional Hydrogen Hub at Edmonton International Airport and exchanged views with Vice President Peter Agnew and other officials.

The airport is expanding its cargo facilities with the aim of becoming a logistics hub for air cargo between Asia and Canada. Furthermore, with many hydrogen production companies clustered around Edmonton, the airport is conducting various demonstration projects to position itself as a hub for hydrogen fuel transportation and technological development, aiming to become an international airport that leads the hydrogen fuel society of the near future. Currently, 12 Toyota “MIRAI” hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from Japan and two large hybrid snowplows—combining hydrogen fuel cells and diesel—manufactured in South Korea are in operation for airport operations.

In addition, plans are underway to launch direct flights to Japan, which is expected to further improve access between Japan and Canada.
