Consul General Wajima visited Bison’s CCS Facility
2026/6/3
On June 3rd, Consul-General Wajima visited the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility operated by Bison Low Carbon Ventures Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “Bison”).
CCS is a technology essential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and research and development are underway worldwide. This facility was developed by Bison, in which Marubeni Corporation and Mizuho Bank hold equity stakes.
This is the first case of a CCS project involving a Japanese company in which CO2 is collected from a third-party company incurring injection fees for underground storage.
Liquefied carbon dioxide delivered to the facility is pressurized to a high pressure, converted into a supercritical state (between liquid and gas), and injected into geological formations 1,500 meters underground. The facility is capable of injecting 3 million tons of carbon dioxide into the ground annually, and there are plans to transport and storage carbon dioxide emitted from factories and other sources in the future.
It is believed that the injected carbon dioxide will be contained within geological formations and can be stably stored over the long term.
