2026/6/2
On June 2nd, Consul-General Wajima paid a courtesy call on Edmonton Mayor Andrew Knack.
Mayor Knack visited Kumamoto Prefecture for the first time this past May and was reportedly impressed by the similarities between the prefecture and Edmonton, particularly in terms of their thriving agriculture, livestock industry, and cutting-edge technology sectors (such as semiconductors). He also mentioned that the strawberries from the prefecture he ate during his visit were exceptionally sweet and an unforgettable treat.
Furthermore, Mayor Knack expressed his hope that direct flights connecting Japan and Edmonton would be launched in the near future, thereby accelerating exchanges between Japan and Canada.
Consul-General Wajima requested the Mayor’s continued support in ensuring that the City of Edmonton remains a safe and secure community for all its residents, including the local Japanese residents.
