Participation in Calgary Japanese Community Association “OMATSURI 2026”

On July 17th and 18th, Calgary Japanese Community Association (CJCA) hosted OMATSURI – the Calgary Japanese Festival.
The festival featured Japanese goods vendor booths and food stalls, traditional and contemporary performances (including taiko drumming, stage combat, and J-pop), and cultural exhibits such as ikebana and bonsai displays, offering visitors a rich opportunity to experience Japanese culture and traditions.
Consul-General Wajima wore a Yukata, a traditional Japanese summer kimono, for the occasion. He attended the opening ceremony, where he delivered opening remarks and participated in the traditional Kagami Biraki (Sake barrel opening ceremony) .
At the Consulate-General’s booth, visitors picked up travel brochures showcasing a variety of tourist destinations in Japan, and learned about the JET Programme and Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships. The booth also featured calligraphy and origami, and welcomed many visitors.
