On Friday, August 7th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary held a Japanese food promotion event at the City of Calgary Fire Department, where Japanese curry was served. This event was held to promote Japanese food in Canada and to express our appreciation to the members of the City of Calgary Fire Department for their continued dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, including the approximately several thousand Japanese nationals living in Calgary.
Firefighters and staff of the City of Calgary Fire Department enjoyed the meal while listening to a presentation introducing the history of Japan’s curry culture, regional variations, and, access to Japanese ingredients in Calgary.
The curry bowls were carefully crafted by Consulate-Chef Keisuke Oyama and the Consulate staff, to reflect the distinct uniqueness of Japanese style curry. The event was covered by local Calgary media outlets, CTV News and CJWE.
