On July 22, Consul-General Wajima visited Banff, AB and paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Corrie DiManno. During the meeting, they discussed the history of the Japanese community in Banff, as well as advancing cultural exchange moving forward.
During the same trip, the Consul-General also paid a visit to the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, where he viewed the large collection of Japanese artworks and writings inherited by the one of the museum’s founders, Catharine Whyte, from her grandfather who was an American marine biologist named Edward S. Morse, who discovered the Ōmori Shell Mounds in Meiji Era Japan.
