Consul-General Wajima Attends Cornfest in Taber

On August 27, Consul-General Wajima and Consul Miyake participated in Cornfest held in the Town of Taber, Alberta.
Taber is known as the "Corn Capital of Canada" and is famous for producing exceptionally sweet corn thanks to its warm, dry climate, fertile soil, and long hours of sunshine.
One of the most enjoyable traditions of the festival parade is sharing sweets with the children gathered along the parade route! During the parade, Consul-General Wajima and Cosul Miyake distributed Morinaga’s HI-CHEW candies, kindly donated by JFC International Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Kikkoman. The candies were a big hit, bringing smiles to many children and their families. It was a wonderful opportunity to share a little taste of Japan and enjoy the festive spirit together.
The Town of Taber and Higashiomi City in Shiga Prefecture, Japan (formerly Yokaichi City), have enjoyed a sister-city relationship since 1979. For many years, the two communities have fostered close ties through youth and student exchanges, including homestay programs. We hope that this sister-city partnership will continue to strengthen the friendship between Taber and Higashiomi and further deepen the ties between their communities.
