Consul-General Watabe Attends Otafest 2023

Otafest 2023, a Japanese animation-themed event, was held at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre from May 19th to 21st. This year Otafest saw its largest attendance yet with a total of 11,469 visitors. All three days were filled with cosplaying and enthusiastic anime and manga fans. Consul-General Watabe attended and spoke at the Opening Ceremony on Friday. On Saturday, Consul-General also acted as an honorary judge for the Otafest Cosplay Contest. For the length of the festival, the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary was present with a PR booth featuring Japanese water calligraphy, culture and sightseeing information, as well as information about exchange programs such as the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme.
