  Japan eVisa Eligibility  
 

  Single-entry Tourism Purpose ONLY   

 

You must meet ALL of the following requirements:    

 
 

  ☑ You are a resident in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.   

  ☑ You are applying for a SINGLE-entry tourism visa, NOT transit.

  ☑ The purpose of your visit to Japan is tourism ONLY.

  ☑ You will stay in Japan for 90 days or less.

  ☑ You will travel to Japan by air (NOT by sea).

  ☑ You are physically present at the place of residence.

 
 
The eVISA (online application) is available
ONLY for Single-entry Tourism visas for short-term stays up to 90 days.

 

 

You CANNOT apply online for ALL OTHER TYPES of visas including a short-term stay visa for business, visiting relatives/friends, transit, and a double/multiple-entry visa.

*Due to the high volume of applicants, processing may take longer than usual (up to 10 business days). Please allow ample time for processing. We do not provide expedited services.

All other visa categories

ALL OTHER TYPES of visas including a short-term stay visa for business, visiting relatives/friends, transit, and a double/multiple-entry visa, must be applied for in person at the Consulate in Calgary.

eVisa required documents

 
1. Valid Passport
 
2. Facial Photo
  • 4.5×3.5cm
  • Taken within 6 months
  • Plain white background
  • Full face centered in the photo

3. Valid Residential
permits in 
Canada

 
  • e.g., PR card, Work permit, Study permit
The confirmation of PR are not acceptable
4. Flight Information
in English

  • Flight itinerary from Airline or flight booking website
 - The itinerary must cover from nearest airport of your residence in Canada to Japan and from Japan to nearest airport of your residence in Canada or to your country with all flight numbers (e.g., YYC to YVR, YVR to NRT and NRT to MNL)
5. Third country's visa or visa exempt information

  • If you fly to any third countries from Japan, the visa or the visa exempt information is required. The information must be from their official website and included its website link. e.g., if Chinese citizen fly to Taiwan from Japan, the Taiwan visa or Taiwan visa exempt information(states that you are not required in order to enter Taiwan) is required. 
 
  • Use one line per day from arrival day to departure day with hotel name, address and phone number. A detailed activity plan is required. (for example, "Tokyo" or "shopping" is not detailed enough). 
  • Enter all hotel names and addresses under 'Accommodation' and hotel phone numbers under "Contact" day by day

7. Bank statement
  • Your CANADIAN chequing or saving account statement with
- visa applicant's full name
- bank name
- amount in Canadian dollars
- issuing date
- last four weeks transaction history

*Note:
If the applicant is a minor or student, his/her parent's Canadian bank statement is acceptable. Provide the parent's passport(picture page) and government issued birth certificate of the applicant(and translation if necessary) along with it.

8. Proof of Residency
 - Proof of your current residential address in AB, SK, MB, NT or NU.
  • Canadian provincial Driver's licence or​
  • Provincial government issued ID or
  • Provincial health care card with physical address or
  • Letter from Canadian government
  • For minor who does not possess the provincial driver licence or ID card, their mother's Canada child benefit(CCB) notice with mother's name, address and minor's name from CRA may be acceptable.
 - P.O.Box is not considered as physical address.
 - PR card or rental agreement is not acceptable.

Make an application

  • To apply for an eVISA, please visit "JAPAN eVISA" (This is the ONLY official website. You will see "Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan" on the top left. Please beware of fraudulent websites that look similar to  the Japan eVISA website).
  • We may request additional documents after reviewing your application. We will send you an email if we need more information. During the application process, applicants may be asked for an in-person interview at the Consulate office. Therefore, applicants must be physically present at the place of residence until the visa assessment completes.

eVisa Issuance and Payment


 After submitting all the required documents, it normally takes up to 10 business days to issue the eVISA. However, if there is a high volume of applications, the process may take longer than usual.   
 
  • If your visa is approved, you will receive an email titled "Notice of visa fees".

  • Applicants who have applied for the eVisa (online visa)  are eligible for online payment (DetailsVideo).
